Stéphane Nicoll

Stéphane is an experienced software engineer and open source contributor with a strong focus on Java enterprise development, software architecture, and technical leadership. Over the years, he has contributed to and led a wide range of initiatives, including the development of critical infrastructure in logistics and geospatial systems, as well as the design of enterprise frameworks widely adopted across the industry.

Stéphane is a core contributor to the Spring Framework and Spring Boot open source projects, and previously led Spring Initializr and start.spring.io, supporting developers worldwide in getting started with Spring. As a former member of the Apache Maven PMC, he has been actively involved in open source software governance and evolution for two decades.

As a member of the Spring team, Stéphane has had the privilege of working on various aspects of Spring Boot and Spring Framework, with a focus on understanding its inner workings and collaborating with the fantastic community of contributors.

Spring Framework 5.2.1 and 5.1.11 available now

On behalf of the team and everyone who has contributed, I am pleased to announce that Spring Framework 5.2.1 and 5.1.11 are available now.

The first maintenance release of the 5.2 line includes over 35 fixes and improvements. Spring Framework 5.1.11 includes 7 selected fixes and improvements.

As usual, we'll follow up shortly with corresponding Spring Boot releases (2.2.1 and 2.1.10).

Spring Initializr 0.8.0 available now

On behalf of the team and everyone who has contributed, I’m happy to announce that Spring Initializr 0.8.0 has been released and is now available from repo.spring.io. For the first time, the release is also available from Maven Central!

This release includes 90 fixes, improvements and dependency upgrades. Thanks to all those who have contributed with issue reports and pull requests.

Spring Initializr 0.8 brings a complete rewrite of the project generation API with dedicated abstractions for common assets of JVM-based projects:

  • Build systems with dedicated support for Apache Maven and Gradle (both Groovy and Kotlin DSLs).
  • Languages with basic model and writer support for Java, Kotlin, and Groovy.
  • High-level hook-point to tune the project structure with several convenient implementations.

Spring Framework 5.1.10 available now

On behalf of the team and everyone who has contributed, I am pleased to announce that Spring Framework 5.1.10 is available now.

Spring Framework 5.1.10 includes 35 fixes and selected improvements.

Next week is going to be quite busy release-wise with Spring Framework 5.2 GA followed by a number of spring projects going GA as well. We'll also have the first release candidate of Spring Boot 2.2, stay tuned!

Spring Framework 5.2 RC2 available now

Spring Framework 5.2 goes RC1

Spring Framework 5.1.9, 5.0.15 and 4.3.25 available now

On behalf of the team and everyone who has contributed, I am pleased to announce that Spring Framework 5.1.9, 5.0.15, and 4.3.25 are available now.

Spring Framework 5.1.9 includes 38 fixes and improvements and is a recommended upgrade for all 5.x users. Spring Framework 5.0.15 includes 16 selected fixes while Spring Framework 4.3.25 includes 10 selected fixes.

Next up is Spring Framework 5.2 RC1 coming up early next week followed by the usual Spring Boot releases, stay tuned!
