Cloud Foundry Integration for Eclipse 1.0 released

News | March 23, 2012 | ...

I am happy to announce the first release of the Cloud Foundry Integration for Eclipse 1.0.

This release features:

  • deploying, updating, starting, stopping apps directly from your workspace
  • supports Java/Web, Java/Spring, Groovy/Grails and Scala/Lift apps
  • service creating and binding (directly at deploy time or later)
  • instance scaling and statistics
  • remote file browsing directly integrated
  • full debugging support for Micro Cloud Foundry
  • improved incremental update performance
  • integrated into Eclipse and STS

And, last but not least, the project is now open-source under the EPL and available from GitHub: https://github.com/SpringSource/eclipse-integration-cloudfoundry

You can install it into STS (2.9.0 or higher required) using the STS Dashboard or directly into a plain Eclipse JEE package (Indigo recommended) using the Eclipse Marketplace.

Attention: if you have a previous version of the Cloud Foundry tooling installed (the old milestone or nightly builds, having the old STS version…

Early Access: SpringSource Tool Suite for Eclipse Juno (4.2)

Engineering | March 14, 2012 | ...

Wanna use the SpringSource Tool Suite on the latest Eclipse Juno (4.2) milestone builds? Here you go: :-)

How to install

The necessary dependencies for STS are all available from the composite update site: http://dist.springsource.com/snapshot/TOOLS/composite/e4.2, if you wanna add something manually.

Managing update sites yourself

Here are the individual update sites from which you can install STS, AJDT and Groovy-Eclipse for Juno (4.2):

Known limitations

Since the Eclipse Juno distribution is based on the Eclipse 4.x stream, you will notice quite some changes on the UI when starting the latest Eclipse Juno builds. And we haven't yet adapted to all changes, therefore the Maven support of STS (for example) is not yet working. If you observe anything else, please let us know.

Feedback

This is an early access version of STS that is continually updated by our CI servers. If you observe problems running STS on top of your Eclipse Juno (4.2) M5 (or later) installation, please let us know and report issues to: https://issuetracker.springsource.com/browse/STS. Since we are planning towards a distribution on top of Eclipse Juno for STS 3.0, we would be very happy to hear your opinion about that and gather feedback as early as possible.

Outlook

We are planning towards an STS 3.0 release right after the Eclipse Juno release in July 2012, providing ready-to-go-distributions of STS based on Eclipse Juno.

SpringSource Tool Suite 2.8.1 released

Releases | November 24, 2011 | ...

The SpringSource Tool Suite team is pleased to announce the new release 2.8.1 of the SpringSource Tool Suite (STS).

STS 2.8.1 is now compatible with the new Maven Integration as well as the old one. So updating your existing STS 2.7 or 2.8 version to STS 2.8.1 doesn't force you to also update the Maven Integration. Instead you can switch to the new Maven integration whenever you want - and even switch back to the old integration, if the new one doesn't work out for you. We automate this up- and downgrading of the Maven Integration as much as possible with two new items on the Dashboard. Please find more details in the New & Noteworthy and the updated m2e FAQ forum post.

The ready-to-use packages contain the new m2e 1.0 version, but you can easily switch them back to m2eclipse 0.12 using the Dashboard items, if you like.

Detailed installation instructions are also available. As always downloads are available from the STS download page.
